THE CAFÉ

DES CONCERTS

Paris, FRANCE

DATE  :  2013

    AREA  :  300 m²

CLIENT  :  Ludéric

Within the Cité de la Musique imagined by Christian de Portzamparc between 1985 and 1995, the Café des Concerts is the former well known Café de la Musique.

Reopened in May 2013, it returned  with a new look that offers a space fully opened up to the kitchens. Cooks and stoves are now part of the action offered to the clients’ views. In this large space, Nelson Wilmotte wished to resume traditional brasserie codes, but also transform them into more contemporary ones that reflect today’s materials.

On the floor, the classical checkerboard pattern has been zoomed in on,  and earthenware has been replace by sandstone to which a contrast of textures has been added.

The bar is entirely made of Carrara marble while the facades have been rendered in a neutral tone. In the middle of the curvaceous space is an elegant and intriguing set of lines and materials guiding the visitor’s eye trough the different zones of the restaurant, like the lounge space, situated to the side.

Every detail has been thought of for the visual pleasure and comfort of the visitor. Seats, sofas and tables, whose bases are designed to show the floor’s pattern, have been created by Nelson Wilmotte specially for the project.
